RuneScape: Dragonwilds Weapons: Types, 1.0 Additions and Upgrades
How melee, ranged and magic weapons differ, what 1.0 added, how special attacks and parries changed, and the Masterwork upgrade path.

Weapons come in three families: melee, ranged and magic. Each follows the material tiers: Bronze → Iron → Steel → Mithril → Adamant → Runite.
The 1.0 additions include the full Rune weapon set, the Dragon scimitar and Dragon crossbow, the Ancestral wand and staff, and Kuldra weaponry.
Remember one thing first: there is no single best weapon. Enemies have damage-type resistances and weaknesses, and weapons lose durability. Swapping by situation beats maining one weapon.
The three families
| Family | Examples | Character |
|---|---|---|
| Melee | Sword, scimitar, mace, greatsword, greataxe, dagger | Close range and parry rhythm. Special attacks pay off |
| Ranged | Crossbows (Bronze through Rune), Magic Longbow, Magic Shortbow | Safe damage, but you manage ammo types |
| Magic | Staves, plus 1.0 wands | Spend runes, apply knockdown, burn and slow |
Melee has a full line per tier: dagger, sword, scimitar, mace, warhammer, greatsword and greataxe.
Ranged covers crossbows from Bronze to Rune, plus the classic Blurite Crossbow.
Magic covers staves plus the new 1.0 wands.
What 1.0 added
Straight from the patch notes:
- Rune series: Rune Dagger, Rune Mace, Rune Greataxe, Rune Greatsword, Rune Sword, Rune Scimitar, Rune Warhammer and Rune Crossbow.
- Ranged support: Magic Longbow and Magic Shortbow.
- Magic: Ancestral Wand and Ancestral Staff.
- Endgame rewards: Kuldra weaponry, Dragon Scimitar and Dragon Crossbow.
Jagex published the Kuldra weapon name only, with no type or numbers, so this page does not guess what it does.
Special attacks, parries and sprint attacks
The 1.0 combat changes decide which weapon feels good to you.
- Special attacks now consume a special attack bar that refills slowly. Jagex made them stronger but limited how often you use them, so timing matters more than spamming.
- A successful parry restores 50% stamina and opens an optional Visceral Attack. You can also dodge, disengage or throw a weapon special instead.
- Sprint attacks were added. Sprint for a moment, then open with a heavy hit. Requires a certain Attack level.
- Attacks, gathering and casting can be cancelled by dodging and blocking, which cuts down on getting punished during wind-ups.
The Masterwork upgrade path
This decides which weapon you commit to.
- The Nightmare Crucible supplies upgrade materials and pushes a low Power Level weapon to the ceiling.
- The Abyssal Whip needs a recipe found in Umbral Sands first. The interim version is the Abysmal Whip at PL4; finishing the Masterwork upgrade takes it to PL7.
- Because you upgrade the weapon you already like, a new tier does not force a whole new set.
Choosing by situation
| Situation | How to choose |
|---|---|
| Surrounded by small mobs | Area damage or mobility, and parry to refill stamina |
| A boss with readable mechanics | Higher standing damage, plus debuffs and reflection spells |
| Elites with elemental resistance | Swap damage type. Do not run one setup all the way |
| Long raids | Carry a backup weapon before durability runs out |
Limits
- Jagex has not published consolidated damage, speed and durability numbers, so this page avoids cross-family rankings and false precision.
- The Kuldra weapon type and values are unannounced.
- Masterwork material costs live in the in-game menus and the official wiki.
